Bergen Man Caught With Hundreds of 3D-Printed Weapons 

A recent case in New York illustrates the scale of this issue. In November of 2024, the New York State Police announced that they had arrested a man for possessing hundreds of 3D-printed weapons. This individual had also created various gun parts and accessories, including silencers and large-capacity magazines.

He faces hundreds of separate felony counts for the large-capacity magazines, along with over a hundred “unfinished frame” charges and numerous ghost gun charges. Weapons and accessories were recovered in various locations, implying this may have been a wide-scale operation in New York. Police note that this individual had previously been arraigned on numerous charges for machine gun conversion devices and automatic sear pin receivers. This individual could theoretically remain in prison for the rest of his life if convicted.

Is 3D Printing Your Own Gun Legal in New York? 

As of this writing, it is theoretically legal to print your own guns in New York. However, you must register your printed firearm with the ATF immediately after creating it. Few people take this step, and 3D-printed weapons often attract those who are legally prohibited from owning firearms.
